Heart Bright Dark

Since 2018 I have been making studies of five paintings in the collection at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, responding to the content I experience from the quality of light(s) each painting embodies. Each painter (Poussin, Basanno, De Hooch, Parkes Bonington, and Cropsey) employs light in dramatically different states. I am taking what I am learning from these works to develop more intention in how I develop light in the compositions for the Heart Bright Dark series, combining abstractions from the master paintings with my own images of flooded woodlands.
