Inspired by the scale and ecstatic energy found in Giambattista Tiepolo’s Baroque paintings, the Capriccio series are abstractions that unite the enormous large glass and steel skylight of the Mall of America, in Bloomington, Minnesota, with passages of exploded color and figurative elements that result in a fractured space. I hope to engage the viewer with an imaginative habitation of an industrial, commercial space in America in the 21st century and capture a situation fraught with contradictions and desires.
